former fuel tank farm

We helped the DoD excavate and treat 100,000 tons of petroleum-contaminated soil from a former fuel tank farm while safely protecting the residential neighborhood. By treating the soil onsite, we avoided 5,000 truckloads and over 3,000,000 pounds in carbon dioxide emissions.

Coordinating with myriad shareholders for a highly visible, complex project, we provided comprehensive investigation; negotiation; and remedial approach evaluation, selection and implementation for a contaminated site involving two malls, a residential neighborhood, and potentially impacted well.

We self-performed the excavation and biotreatment of 100,000 tons of petroleum-contaminated soil on-site at a former DoD fuel tank farm, designing a protocol for the tracking of 100 soil piles, treatment verification sampling, and backfilling services.

We provided cost recovery and technical consulting; assessed/characterized and remediated a 25-acre former shipyard facility and a 30-acre future park; and developed and implemented the cost-effective remediation of contaminants migrating into harbor waters.

Our 3D subsurface assessment of a chlorinated solvent plume in one of the nation’s largest aquifers helped our rail line client qualify for the Innocent Owner/Operator Program and could potentially save them millions of dollars.

What if you could remediate your contaminants of concern in the most cost-effective and efficient manner possible? What if you could employ innovative technology that saved you thousands of dollars and trimmed months or even years off your schedule? What if you could curtail the migration of groundwater contaminant plumes? Meet the most stringent regulations? Expedite site closure?

We’ve successfully helped our clients manage, minimize, and mitigate environmental challenges for over 30 years and we can help you, too.

Our licensed geologists, hydrogeologists, civil engineers, site characterization and remediation specialists, and operations and maintenance (O&M) operators have extensive experience with major CERCLA (Superfund), state voluntary cleanup programs, underground storage tank (UST), above ground storage tank (AST), landfill, and brownfield redevelopment projects. As experts in both traditional and innovative volatile organic compound (VOC) remedial technologies, our approaches include in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), enhanced in-situ bioremediation (EISB), in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR), monitored natural attenuation (MNA), and sequenced applications using combinations of technologies. Equally important, we help our clients tackle the most complex air, soil, and water challenges such as chlorinated solvents in fractured bedrock; PCB-laden sediment; and the toxic and persistent PFAS.

Countless Americans have been exposed to PFAS, which refers to manmade poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). These global pollutants are dubbed “forever chemicals” as the compounds don’t naturally degrade, posing significant health risks. While PFAS is now emerging as an environmental crisis—spurring several states to regulate as the EPA positions to take action—Apex has been on the forefront of its investigation, assessment, and characterization. For nearly a decade, we’ve been helping our clients accurately measure and understand the extent and severity of their PFAS impacts. And we’re ready to apply our expertise to help you do the same.
